Audrey really wanted take part in the painting that we have been doing in the bathroom, so I let her help with the door.

twenty months

Our boy is twenty months!

Charlie has learned one of the most dreaded of toddler words: mine. We were able to keep it out of Audrey's vocabulary for much longer, but I guess that is what happens when you are the little brother. He still is pretty sweet and can usually be persuaded to share after being asked nicely.

It is getting harder and harder to take happy pictures of Charlie because once the camera comes out, he cries to "look, look" at the pictures already taken. Our new tactic is the sneak attack before he even realizes his picture is being taken.

It only took twenty months, but it seems that Charlie has finally figured out that he will get his diaper changed when it is dirty and it is futile to fight it. Diaper changes have been a wrestling match with Charlie every time for as long as I can remember but all of the sudden he is cooperating. Hooray for small miracles!

shipping out

Todd and I are having a work-on-the-house weekend so Audrey is going to Nana and Papa's tomorrow and Channy came to pick up Charlie today.

But first, Channy kindly took us out to lunch.

prim and proper

Charlie really wants to be just like his big sister, including wearing her clothes.

empty space

I moved a chair to get something from behind it and immediately there were two little people sitting where the chair was.

first day of preschool - this time for real

Audrey is finally feeling better and had her first day of preschool today, after missing the first two classes.

I couldn't get much information out of her, but Audrey says she had fun and likes school. She was happy to see Charlie after class.

head on collision

We watched Colin for a few hours today. He and Audrey get along so great and Charlie always enjoys observing older kids. The played trains and ran circles like crazy around the house.

stairs are tiring

Sometimes when Charlie is climbing the stairs he likes to stop and take a little rest.

And, of course, around here it is all about monkey see, monkey do, so Audrey has to do it too.

tiny dancers

Here is my son in a tutu. Charlie loves to dress up in Audrey's ballerina and princess clothes almost as much as Audrey does. The spinning in the flouncy skirts is really what seems to attract him to it. Why should girls get all the fun?

does whatever a spider can

Audrey is feeling better so we stopped by Colin's birthday party across the street, with the plan to drop off his present and stay for the last few minutes. This turned into hours of playing with the neighborhood children in the rented bounce house. I am feeling a lot of guilt and I hope that Audrey doesn't get anyone sick but she was so happy to be out of the house for the first time since Tuesday.

Charlie can't even ride on the musical zebra without holding onto a ball.

first day of preschool

Today was supposed to have been Audrey's first day of preschool. She is sick with a cold so instead is home resting on the couch with the puke bucket.

preschool orientation

Today Todd and I took Audrey for preschool orientation. This was our first time meeting the teachers and seeing the classroom. The kids played while the parents listened to a presentation by Mrs. Spencer and Mrs. Antonsen.

Audrey was excited to find her name on the window.

So many toys...

Audrey finally decided on the dollhouse.

birthday sand

Finally Charlie got to use the sandbox he received for his birthday back in January. He had a lot of fun digging - "dig" is one of the words he can say really well - and did not try to eat or throw the sand. Hooray for small miracles!

kittens

We were actually thinking about adopting a kitten this weekend. We visited the shelter twice and went back today to get a kitten named Skittles and she was gone. In the thirty minutes left of adoption time the day before someone else had come in and adopted her. Audrey and I spent more time with the cats to see if we were drawn to another, but we weren't loving any like Skittles. I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

on top of the world

I took advantage of a day off from work to do the one thing I like to avoid if at all possible - I hopped on my usual morning train into the city and headed to the office. Only this time with Audrey in tow. We've been talking about seeing the view from the top of "my building" for ages and this seemed like the perfect end-of-summer day to do it. Get ready for another photo heavy post, my friends.

Audrey points the way to Chicago.

Before heading to the top, we stopped in to see some of Audrey's "work friends." I'm glad she had the chance to see Marti again before her last day at the firm. Audrey talks about her all the time.

When we got to the top of the building, Audrey immediately took off to the windows to see if she could see boats from that height. When we made our way to the new Skydeck ledges, Aud plopped down on her belly next to some teens who declared she was "so brave" as they were still mustering the courage to try it.

Meow enjoyed the view from 103 floors up too.

We covered a lot of ground on our little outing. After showing Audrey around the library, we stopped to check out the giant eyeball. She would later report to Jill that it was "so creepy!"

The other main attraction of our city tour was Millenium Park as Audrey really wanted to see the bean again.

Little did we know that there was a tent full of family fun waiting for us. Audrey was excited to try the hula hoops, but was quickly discouraged when she realized how hard it is to keep the hoop moving.

After lunch at Audrey's favorite spot, Noodles & Co., we started our trek back to the train station. Audrey was very interested in pigeons during our walk and spent some time chasing them around Daley plaza. Luckily this fountain was cool enough that she soon gave up the chase and forgot all about them.

As they say, all good things must come to an end. We caught a bonus express train out of the city due to the holiday weekend and read Audrey's new comic on the way home. Does it get any better?
