cutting school

Audrey started a new class at the park district today - learning to use scissors. She was very worried that she didn't already know how to use scissors despite our reassurances that she would be taught at class. She seemed to enjoy the class and did actually cut things.

I dropped off Audrey and Charlie at Channy and John's for a bit this afternoon where they discovered a love for a new breakfast cereal.

thirteen months

Our boy is getting so big! Charlie's favorite things these days are waving at everyone and everything and giving kisses. He is much more daring with standing on his own, but has not taken any solo steps yet. He has mastered pushing the wagon and can even maneuver his new push toy in a big circle around the entire first floor of our house by himself. He has ten teeth now and a whole lot of drool to show for it.

Charlie is starting to realize that he does not get to do all of the things that the rest of us get to do and he gets pretty frustrated. Not being able to say much more than "mama" and "dada" and not caring to use the sign language I have been showing him for months does not help these situations. Diversion is the key and he is usually back to his happy, lovable self fairly quickly.

go spartans

Yesterday Todd worked a half day and then we took Audrey to Nana and Papa's to spend the night.

Last night Audrey went to her first basketball game, which she calls a basketball party, to see uncle Jeff coach. Even though her aunt Rickie and her cousins were there, Audrey clung to Papa for most of the game. She did enjoy the cheerleaders and dancers. Today before she came home, Audrey went to the pet store with Nana and Papa to help pick out two fish and a snail. Audrey chose the name of the goldfish - Dorothy, after Elmo's pet fish.

free pancake day

If we can get our act together to get free food when it is available, we do it. Today was free pancake day at ihop so we ate pancakes for dinner.

monkey see, monkey do

We've been finding socks and small toys on the stairs to the basement. Turns out it is Charlie who is dropping things through the cat door.

When Audrey saw the photo of Charlie doing this, she had to try it out too.

miss congeniatlity

Audrey and Todd came home from the grocery store with flowers for valentine's day.

Audrey looked like she had just won a beauty prize holding them so we had to have her put on her crown and do her best miss america wave.

milk for two

Now that Charlie is one we have started to introduce a small amount of dairy in the form of a couple tablespoons of yogurt per day. So far so good, but for now he has to drink soy milk. He's making it look good in the picture but so far he isn't really interested. Probably because I want so badly for him to be. We also had to start Audrey with soy when she turned one and she still drinks it exclusively. She calls it "original" milk. Not sure why.

Audrey had an allergy appointment today and just happened to wake up with a bad case of hives (you can see them in the picture). The allergist thought maybe she had something worse than a typical ear infection so sent us down to pediatrics right away. Turns out Audrey does have an ear infection, but not in the ear the walk-in care doctor diagnosed. She also probably has strep but they did not bother with the throat swab as the antibiotics prescribed yesterday for her ear will take care of that too. Good times.

sick again

Last night Audrey was complaining of her ear hurting. With all of the ear infections she has had she has never complained so I took her to the walk-in care this morning. She has another ear infection that the doctor thinks burst. This has been the winter of sickness for poor Aud.
