two nights

Audrey practiced peddling on her tricycle...

then was ready to go to Channy's for a two-night sleepover!

Only one child = eating out and fun with pasta finger puppets!

We spent the afternoon out in the yard admiring the newly bloomed daffodils, blowing bubbles and running around.

fourteen months

Oh, Charlie. When you are happy, you are really happy and when you are mad, you are really mad. More and more he is getting frustrated by all of the things that a fourteen month old can't do. He is using sign language for more, eat, milk and all done, which helps a bit. His words are still limited to pretty much mama, dada and, more recently, cheers. He wants to tap glasses constantly through every meal.

Charlie takes steps here and there, but still prefers crawling. It won't be long now, sweet boy!

first flower

Another week of cutting school.

After school, Todd and Audrey noticed the first flowers starting to bloom in our yard.

more assisted walking

Charlie walking with the swiffer again. Maybe I'll start a daily post about Charlie and his favorite item, the swiffer. Enough already, Charlie! Just walk on your own!

jeremy and the head

Here is Jeremy with his new head that he got from Susan for his birthday.

All he got from us was a monkey-decorated birthday bundt cake. Happy birthday, Jeremy!

assisted walking

I am sure my son is the only child in the world who would rather hold onto the swiffer to help him learn to walk than his mother's hand.

rinse and spit

This morning Audrey went with Todd to the dentist to see the whole process. She was fine observing but insists that she will not be seeing the dentist herself.

Then it was off to cutting school.

Audrey made a boat.

mission aborted

Today we had a failed attempt to walk to the horse because of potty stops and no where to sit. It was some good outside time though.

Charlie was not liking our prickly dead grass. More incentive to put more effort into the yard this year, I guess.

observation day

Audrey has been taking a gymnastics class that does not include parents. This was the third week and I got to sit in, watch and photograph.

outside the lines

Audrey tried to make her hair blue today while coloring with markers but just ended up with lines on her scalp.

Meanwhile, Charlie was in the cabinet again, this time interested in just one bowl to use on his head.

like at the zoo

Sara dropped off more toys and clothes that Jack and Emma have outgrown. The bean bag toss is a big hit so far though neither of them get the hang of how to play the game yet.

The two of them could stand at the window and watch the new puppy next door all day.

lunch

We joined Amber, Patrick and Brylen for lunch today.

I love these two together.

Charlie entertained other patrons with his enthusiastic nonstop waving and fascination with the ceiling lights.

babysat

For Todd's birthday, Erinn and Kieran gave him movie tickets and a promise to babysit, though their babysitting requirements include no changing diapers. We took them up on it last night and left after putting Charlie to bed, keeping to said requirement.

In preparation for aunt Erinn, Audrey dressed up as a kitty. She looks pretty innocent here, but Audrey got Erinn to read to her before bed for almost an hour. Usually she gets one short story.

Audrey had to show aunt Erinn the cheerleading game.

Kieran and Charlie watch the action. Don't think that Kieran thinks himself too manly to play some cheerleading. I hear he was pretty good at it.

first steps

Charlie took his first steps today! It was just a couple, but we are counting them!

He has been getting a lot of practice while pushing this toy around and Audrey has been more than happy to help with the steering.

cutting school

Audrey started a new class at the park district today - learning to use scissors. She was very worried that she didn't already know how to use scissors despite our reassurances that she would be taught at class. She seemed to enjoy the class and did actually cut things.

the boys

March 01, 2010

thirteen months

Our boy is getting so big! Charlie's favorite things these days are waving at everyone and everything and giving kisses. He is much more daring with standing on his own, but has not taken any solo steps yet. He has mastered pushing the wagon and can even maneuver his new push toy in a big circle around the entire first floor of our house by himself. He has ten teeth now and a whole lot of drool to show for it.

Charlie is starting to realize that he does not get to do all of the things that the rest of us get to do and he gets pretty frustrated. Not being able to say much more than "mama" and "dada" and not caring to use the sign language I have been showing him for months does not help these situations. Diversion is the key and he is usually back to his happy, lovable self fairly quickly.
