vacation!
Erinn and Kieran were off to Paris so we volunteered to cat sit and have another mini city vacation. With Charlie napping several hours a day, our expectations were not set too high We did manage to have a lot of fun.

Charlie doesn't say many comprehensible words, but within minutes of meeting Bella, he was yelling her name repeatedly.
Kita and Sasha don't usually come out from their hiding spots in the basement. This time we saw a lot of them during our stay.
At the zoo, the favorite part by far for both Audrey and Charlie was the farm-in-the-zoo.
The only thing Audrey said she wanted to do on vacation was see baby chicks. Success!

It was cold and windy but we really wanted to visit the beach, if only for a short while. It was just long enough for Charlie to put a handful of sand in his mouth.

Todd's co-librarian, Marti, actually encouraged Audrey to climb the ladder. She was a great tour guide for Audrey through the office re-do.

While downtown, we visited the bean,
saw Chinese contemporary sculpture,
ran around the Pritzker Pavillion,
walked across the the Nichols Bridgeway to the modern wing,
and strolled through the Art Institute.
I should have a nice picture from our last morning enjoying brunch at a cute little breakfast place, but by this time, the kids were tired and done with vacation. After ordering our food we realized we had to get out. Not a great end to our trip but other than a hurt finger and bump on the head, we had a great time.

fifteen months
Charlie has made some big steps this month, both literally and figuratively. Most notably, he is walking! I can tell how happy and excited he is to be on his feet like everyone else. While I'm sure the occupational therapist would disapprove, I love his cute wide walking stance. He has added please, thank you and sleep to his sign language repertoire. Charlie is one polite little guy.

weekday visit
Todd and the kids made a rare weekday visit to Nana and Papa today while I met with a garden designer to discuss ideas to fix our mess of a back yard.
They even got to play with cousins Jeffery, Imani and Jaila.

While you can't see the project that Audrey made this last day of cutting school, you can see behind her the boy that Todd insisted, even after seeing him every week at class, was a girl.

I am trying so hard to not be bothered by the mismatched outfits Audrey sometimes insists on wearing, as long as she is weather appropriate. Here we have, in my opinion, the worst yet.

egg hunt
We hid some plastic eggs for Audrey and Charlie this morning. Audrey had fun finding them. We made it very easy for Charlie and he wasn't even disappointed that all he found inside of them were Cheerios.
Audrey wore her new apron to help Todd make flower- and butterfly-shaped pancakes.
After breakfast we worked in the yard and I tried to get Audrey and Charlie to pose in front of the now fully-bloomed daffodils. One out of two isn't bad.

Charlie and I went to lunch with Susan and Jeremy. We just turned Charlie's car seat to face forward last night. He is very excited about the new view.
After dinner Todd and I took Charlie to the park for some sunset swinging.
