eight months

Charlie, or "my little guy" as Audrey calls him, is eight months today!

Charlie has made some great strides in his physical development over the last month. He graduated from scooter to army crawler over the weekend and is quite efficient.

He is doing a great job with sitting but really doesn't want to sit still long enough in one spot to even bother with it.

The babbling is nonstop and all of us are sure he is saying a version of our names, even Audrey.

my mommy lives on Audrey's farm

There was still a little bit of whining when I left Audrey at school this morning but each time it gets less and less. This week's theme was farms.

zucchini as big as a baby

Susan stopped by tonight and just had to show us the zucchini she took from the break room at her work. It is almost as big as Charlie. That is a big zucchini! Charlie really liked hanging out on the floor with it.

gymnastics

Today was the second week of gymnastics. It has been great to see how much more confident and coordinated Audrey is compared to last year's gymnastics class. Thanks to Nana and Channamom who are splitting the days watching Charlie so I can take Audrey to class!

This didn't last long before Charlie decided the grass was too scratchy and Audrey got scared of bugs.

Audrey's apple is red

Today was the second week of Audrey's pre-preschool. There was still a bit of whining when I went to leave but not as much as last week. I think it helps that Audrey has made a friend in class who is also in her gymnastics class. Here is week two's art project.

two nights

After gymnastics on Thursday, Channamom took Audrey back to her house to spend TWO nights. Audrey refuses to nap anywhere but home so was quite tired and loopy by the time we got her. She didn't seem to miss us too much though. It couldn't have hurt that she visited with cousins Seth and Grant on Friday and then Tyler and Alyssa where at Channy's overnight on Friday too.

while Audrey is away, Charlie will play

We took advantage of our picky eater sleeping over at Channy's and went out for thai. Charlie tried to chew on the table a bit but otherwise did a fine job in the restaurant high chair.

school

Audrey started a class at the park district today that I have dubbed pre-preschool. It is just one hour per week without parents. We barely ever have babysitters and when we do it is usually Channamom or Nana so this was a big deal. Audrey was the only one who put up any fuss when dropped off but was fairly easily distracted by the teacher with toys and was fine during the remainder of the class.

dance all night

Papa got to spend a little time with Charlie when we went to pick up Audrey after her overnight visit.

No nap and late sleep make for one crazy girl.

girls' night out

Todd was hanging with Holmes and Audrey was spending the night at Nana and Papa's so I made plans with Susan for a night out on the town. Charlie was an honorary girl for the evening.

Shortly after this picture, the tables behind Charlie would be overflowing with teenagers. Tonight must have been the homecoming dance at the local high school. Luckily Charlie was not able to grab any of the fancy dresses, though he sure did try.

first haircut

Only a child who knows no better would trust me to put scissors to hair. When Audrey's hair is wet and straight it goes down to the middle of her back. Tonight after her bath it was especially knotty and I suggested I cut a little off. Audrey agreed so we went with it. I just cut a couple of inches off the back and it is probably the worst, most uneven cut ever. Audrey would not keep her head straight for more than a few seconds at a time. With the curls, you can't even tell and she loves her new haircut.

good friends

We had a long overdue visit with Amber and Brylen today. Brylen could barely contain herself waiting for Charlie to get up from his nap and wanted to get her hands on him as quickly as possible. Brylen and Audrey played unsupervised in Audrey's room, which is so weird. It seems like just yesterday they were babies sitting next to each other in strollers.

Charlie trying to charm Amber into moving in next door. He's going to keep working on that.

more teeth

I still haven't gotten a picture of Charlie's two bottom teeth and now I discovered today that the two front top teeth are about to break through his gums!

surprise invitation

Audrey surprised us by inviting her grandparents over for a visit during an otherwise uneventful phone call yesterday. We didn't have any other plans for today, so we told them they had best come over.

Charlie was a little surprised by the visit, even though Papa decked him out in a cool headband.

Fortunately some time with Nana made everything better.

Audrey took advantage of her time with Nana and Papa to show off some of her new tricks. This one has a variation including a few hops. Once finished she demands to see her audience give it a try.

sitting up

Charlie had his first ride in the stroller sitting up by himself today. Over the last week his sitting has really improved. All of that extra tummy time and new therapy exercises must be doing the trick!

Meow got prime cart seating on our trip to Costco.

thirty-three months

This last month was the month of the potty. Every day in August Audrey used the potty at least once, one day even only dirtying a diaper during naptime. We like where this is going and am so proud of our big girl!

Somehow Audrey already has better English skills than I do. She uses big words, speaks in grammatically correct sentences and even corrects herself if she uses the wrong word tense. It must be the good influence of Todd. All of this talking does get a little embarrassing though when she repeats everything strangers say while we are out in public.

She seems to be coming out of her shell a bit. She used to not want to play on equipment at the park if other kids were on it but has gotten much better recently. I hope this will just get better when she starts up gymnastics and what I am calling pre-preschool class without me next month.

Audrey still love to ham it up for the camera and posed as the beggar woman below just for aunt Erinn and our beloved Russian cats.
