the celebration continues
Saturday we were psyched about Audrey finally playing in the snow but she took another super-long nap and we didn't have time before the evening's activities. Some friends traveled out to our house from the city to surprise Todd with a little birthday party.
We were excited to see everyone but most excited that Audrey got to hang with Silas. They pretty much ignored each other except when they wanted a toy the other had or when their parents were trying to get them to give each other kisses.
Mike brought over Rock Band - it was almost like the band was back together
Audrey talked about cats almost as much as her aunt Erinn
The babies ganged up on Brad
Today Todd's parents babysat Audrey. While baby-free we ate an uninterrupted meal and saw Juno.

merry christmas
It was a fun christmas morning with Audrey. She has gotten the hang of opening presents with all of the practice from her birthday a few weeks ago and she loved being pushed around the house on her riding toy. After being up for a while though, she started feeling warm to the touch and having crying fits. She took an especially long nap and when she woke had a fever again so we stayed home instead of going to my extended family celebration. The rest of the day was spent cuddling, playing and obsessively taking temperatures.

city of lights
Sunday Audrey was feeling better so we all went out to Todd's parents' to celebrate with his family.

Today Audrey played with new toys and took a super-long nap.
Then we went to see a big light display at a nearby park. The camera battery ran out and this is the only picture I got.

oh christmas tree
Audrey has been pretty good about leaving the tree alone. I think the main problem is that we have to crawl underneath it to turn the lights on and she wants to then crawl underneath herself.
We were going to go ornament-free this year but decided to put up some unbreakable snowflakes. Audrey is always a helper.

first of many
Yesterday was christmas at Channamom's. Audrey had a bit of a temperature and was sleeping when it was time to leave so I left Todd with her at home and headed out by myself.
My brother Scott plays with Allysa, Seth and Tyler after opening presents.

staying warm
Audrey loves to play with her new ring toy. She had plenty of time to play with it yesterday since we stayed home in our jammies all day to avoid the cold. When she gets all of the rings on she claps in celebration, dumps them off and starts all over again.

I know I have already posted a picture that looks like this but I had never seen this particular sticker before. Audrey eats a lot of bananas. So there are many opportunities to put the stickers from the bananas on her forehead, which she thinks is hilarious. This shot was just too good to pass up.

new word
Aunt Erinn gave Audrey a new sweatshirt for her birthday. When Todd and I put it on her Saturday we showed her the whales on it. She instantly said "whale." We don't think she has ever heard the word before and were amazed that she said it.
Audrey cooking up her own creation while Todd and I make our first batch of veggie chili of the winter season today.

We haven't left the house much this week but yesterday we went to the mall to exchange some items Audrey got for her birthday and met up with Sara, Jack and Emma.
We passed through the shoe department and didn't realize until we were almost out of the store that Audrey had kept a souvenir.

cheese, glorious cheese
Since our last post we have been getting the house back in order after the big birthday blowout, finding homes for Audrey's great gifts and holiday shopping. Audrey has been having all kinds of fun playing with (and tasting) her new toys. She rocks her babies in her chair, rides her zebra, matches farm animals, pushes her truck, pops balls and even shares with Natasha.
On Thursday we ate a long lunch with Jamila and Emma from my mom's group. I got the go ahead from the pediatrician on Friday to introduce some dairy back into my diet. Todd worked his research magic and found items for me that are low in lactose and I had cheese today! If all goes well, Audrey will be eating dairy in the next month for the first time. We have started giving her soy milk and she loves it. Tonight she drank two glasses, mostly holding the cup on her own.
Also on Friday, Channamom babysat Audrey so Todd and I could go to his firm holiday party. This was the first time we left her with anyone since June. I was worried about her at bedtime, but she did fine. Thanks Channamom!

santa, baby
This one year old is no fan of jolly men with white beards in red suits. We took Audrey to see Santa yesterday and she cried as soon as I deposited her on his lap. So there are no pictures of her sitting with the scary man but we took some from afar and by the holiday decorations.

one year!
I know I tend to go on about the passing of time, but Audrey, I simply cannot believe we've spent a whole year getting to know you! You charmed us from day one, though this past month you've upped the ante considerably. You are less a helpless baby and so much more a cool little girl who we can't wait to spend time with. We love the way you meow when you see a cat or the way you exclaim "bahr!" when you see your teddy bear or "ball!" when you spy a balloon. Just today you looked at a photograph of yourself and helpfully explained to me that I was looking at a "ba-ba" which is your way of saying baby. And you sing! There are your "la-la-la's" from that Shins song and your rendition of a certain Death Cab for Cutie hit is spot on. You woke up singing it in your crib the other morning without any prompting from mama or dada. You've been picking up sign language and are quick to tell us things like "eat" and "more" and "all done," with simple gestures. Not even Natasha can leave a room any more without you cheerfully calling out "bye-bye" and waving. There are so many things, each one the coolest thing in the world to behold.
Physically you've grown too. Your baby fat is disappearing and your hair is getting longer; I love the little wings that feather out on the sides of your head. You have 11(!) teeth now. You have very little interest in walking unless you are holding onto the side of a table or couch, but you have been standing unassisted for a couple seconds at a time. You love to laugh and give kisses to your stuffed animals and to your parents.
I don't know how a year could possibly have flown by so quickly, but I do know with absolute certainty that it's been the best year of my life. Happy birthday, we love you!

more presents, more cake
Sara, Jack and Emma came over for cake and brought Audrey a birthday present. Audrey is so entertained by the older kids and Emma was having so much fun she didn't want to leave.
Audrey was much more interested in tearing wrapping paper today than she was yesterday at her party. Maybe Jack helping was what did the trick.
Emma tells Audrey about her new toy. This was one of Jack and Emma's favorites so I'm sure Audrey will love it too.
Audrey shared her balloons (known as "ball!") with Jack and Emma.

one-derland
Family gathered at our house today to celebrate Audrey's upcoming first birthday. Even though Audrey has developed a bit of a cold she dealt with having 30 people in her house perfectly.
she was not a big fan of her first piece of cake.
Audrey was much more interested in the cards that came with her presents than opening the actual presents. Everyone was so generous and gave her great gifts. Here she models her cute new hat.
Much of the day was spent with second (or is it third?) cousins Julie, Mackenzie and Jenna.
Uncle Jeff and cousin Jeffery stopped by this morning on their way to work to wish Audrey a happy birthday.
