back to routine

Audrey has adjusted back to her routine after returning from vacation. She is eating and sleeping well again. We have reinstated our evening walks and took this picture last night. Audrey has graduated to sitting facing forward in her stroller. I had been selfishly keeping her in the carrier in the stroller so we could talk and make faces at each other but now she can see where we are going rather than just where we have been! There are all kinds of really pretty wildflowers growing around the pond that I hope she has been enjoying seeing.

vacation

Todd, Audrey and I left last Friday to spend a week with aunts, uncles, cousins and second cousins 600 miles away on the shore of Woman Lake in northern Minnesota, where my family has been vacationing for almost 40 years.

We split the ride up into two and spent Friday night in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Audrey's first night's stay away from home just happened to coincide with some major teething - she has FOUR new teeth coming in on the top. She had a fever and cried all night, not sleeping or letting her parents sleep until 9am. We seriously considered heading back home but continued north.

Gathering the kids for a picture when everyone is happy is hard to do. All of the girls loved playing with Audrey. Mackenzie thought that maybe they had "given her too much love".

We cut our vacation short because I caught a bad cold and was fighting a fever; Audrey was not sleeping well, was covered in heat rash and had her own runny nose and cough. We thought we better leave while Todd was still healthy to drive us. While we didn't get to see the turtle races or spend enough time at the beach or with the family, Todd was the champion of the two game nights we were there for, winning Apples to Apples and 80's Trivial Pursuit with Erika as his partner.

I do all of the touching

Todd is back from his work trip in New Orleans tomorrow. Audrey and I made our last evening without daddy more bearable by having dinner with Sara and Tina. At the restaurant Audrey was very excited to wave and chatter at other diners to the point that I felt she was disturbing their meals. Her thing tonight was grabbing everyone's chins. Sara gave Audrey a taste of her own medicine while she was grabbed Tina's chin.

bananas

Susan went to lunch and strolled around the Riverwalk with us today. Here she is getting ready to poke Audrey with a colored pencil at Egg Harbor Cafe.

Audrey ate her first banana today. She wasn't too sure about the first couple of bites.

Then she realized it's food and she really likes to eat.

In other feeding news, we have been trying to get Audrey to drink from a regular cup and she doesn't get it yet so we let her use a sippy cup today. We don't want to get her hooked on the sippy but she was able to get some water out of it!

lunchtime entertainment

Today we went to see storyteller Banjo Dan perform in the park with Sara, Jack and Emma. Audrey found more exciting things to do during the performance such as pull on grass and grab Jack's shoe.

major development

Okay, the photo has nothing to do with the news...unfortunately I didn't capture the moment on film, so we're going with this cute shot from earlier today. This evening I sat Audrey in her crib and she reached over, grabbed the railing, and proceeded to pull herself up to her feet! For the first time ever! After about 1.5 seconds of standing on her own she fell over like a ton of bricks, but that's not the part we're going to remember - in fact forget that you just read that.

ducks!

This morning I was sitting at the kitchen table checking my email when an entire family of ducks walked across our back patio. Audrey isn't even up yet, but I hope some day she will appreciate all of the animals that we see on a daily basis in our neighborhood. I know Todd will be be sad that he missed them.

Audrey's first Fourth

As we took our evening walk, there were all kinds of fireworks exploding around our house. Audrey watched in awe and did not get scared despite loud booms and stinky smoke. You can see a bit of firework action between the two houses in the picture above.

seven months

Oh, how time is flying. Audrey is already seven months! The last 30 days have been full of firsts. Audrey ate her first solids and has loved it all from squash to prunes. Though she won't let us see it, she cut her first tooth. She is becoming a rolling queen, immediately wanting to turn from back to belly every time we lay her down. She is such a big girl!

Audrey and I went to the Cosley Zoo in Wheaton today with Nicole and Nathan and Jessica, Lauren and Paige. Afterwards Audrey and I came home and took a nap together. Definitely my idea of a great day!

Today we went to gma Sue's for a family picnic as a pre-4th of July celebration. Todd and I were the big losers in bocce ball but we had a fun day anyway.
