Happy Birthday, Tyler!
We headed down south to wish cousin Tyler an early happy 11th birthday. We could not have asked for a better day, nor for a better behaved little girl - Audrey happily played the part of the adorable baby for all to admire. Scott grilled some portabella patties and tofu dogs for us, which made the day that much sweeter. Tyler got some great presents, cake and ice cream were served, and fun was had by all.

a face fit for the funny papers!
I never thought this would happen, for the first time I think I could legitimately have a cross-over with that other blog I like to call home! Just kidding, Jill!
Audrey started eating prunes this week, and as you can see, she loves to play with them almost as much as she loves to eat them. Between bites she likes to stick her fingers in her mouth and then finger-paint her face, bib, onesie, whatever she can grab. Part of the reason might be that little nub of a tooth we just found poking through the gum...I tell you, this girl is growing up way too fast. Today it's teeth, tomorrow she's going to be asking for the car keys!

life in the burbs
Todd and I have been taking Audrey on walks in the evenings around the pond and stopping at the park to swing. Every day I miss living in Chicago, but when we are on our walks, it is so quiet and we see all kinds of wildlife, I am glad we are here. These walks with the two loves of my life are the best thing about the summer so far.
These pictures have nothing to do with this post. I just think they are cute.

any excuse to not nap
I fought all morning to get Audrey to take a nap. The first time I put her down she was fussy and then really started to cry. I went in to check on her and she had turned over! This was only her third time ever and her first time without the incentive of being able to play with the TV remote. The next nap attempt ended with the same result! This time I got the camera (does this make me a bad mother?) and took this picture. Her eyes are so sad from crying but she is smiling, posing for the camera.

two boys for every girl
Audrey got to see her play group friends from the Rush Copley hospital class today. All the babies are getting so big! I look forward to the day when they can actually interact and play together. For now, us moms are enjoying getting together to talk about pediatricians, solids and poop.

leg up!
Today we met up with my friend Nicole and her son Nathan at the Morton Arboretum. Nicole is one of my favorite people so I am very happy that we got to spend time with her. Audrey was quite agreeable in her stroller as we chatted and followed Nathan as he played.

Audrey eats!
I wanted to capture all the fun of Audrey at the dinner table, but she was just a little too aware of the camera this time around. I think you'll get the gist though in this short clip as Audrey tries carrots for the second time ever. We're introducing peas later this week, I can only hope they go over as well as the sweet potatoes and carrots have...

Like a lot of little girls Audrey spends most of her time wearing pink, so it was nice to see her borrow a page from her mother's book: black and lots of it! Forget Kurt, it's Audrey who looks like mommy's twin today!!

third time's a charm
Somewhere in the fabled halls of well behaved babies there is a place set aside for those who eat their solids. Audrey, today you have earned your right to sit at their table. I was so proud of us when we pureed your earlier feedings and a bit dismayed when your mommy bought home some Brand Name sweet potato baby food, but goodness, it did the trick. Hold that spoon with pride, my little sweet potato, you're eating like a big girl now!

Today was a big day. Audrey helped with laundry (see below), had her second day of sweet potato and turned over from back to belly for the first time!!!

mmmm
Because of her allergies, Audrey had to wait until six months to have solids and had to start with vegetables, rather than the usual cereal. Tonight she had her first bites of sweet potato! As you can see by the bottom picture, the taste is going to have to grow on her.

six months
Audrey Mae, as trite as it may be to say, I cannot believe how quickly these six months have passed. I've been thinking a lot lately about the nature of time; while I may not have anything original to lend to the subject, I find myself wanting to express something of it to you. Everyday I am amazed just how much joy and wonder you have packed into our lives in such short order. And I know that's the sort of sentiment I would have shrugged off as so much treacle before you were born, but I'll be damned if it isn't absolutely true now. Everyday I want to hold onto the minutes I have have with you in as tightly as I possibly can, knowing all too well that it's silly to think that way. When I picture the tiny baby we brought home from the hospital last December, it's hard to believe that was you - you're such a little person now. To see you so aware of your surroundings, to see you begin to examine and think about your world, it blows my mind. I have so much fun with you, there could never be enough time in the day. I'll continue wishing I could freeze time, wishing I could hold onto moments longer than I have any right to...hopefully, you'll understand that the sentimental fool you call dad goes on this way only because he adores you so.
