the little things
One thing that has dawned on me as I raise my little girl is this: while her birth may have been one incredibly huge event, it is the little things from day-to-day that fill me with wonder. This evening, for example, I arrived home from work to find her on the floor enjoying some time in her play gym. Usually she's good for a couple minutes on that thing, maybe checking herself out in the mirror. But today she spent a solid twenty minutes happily batting at her friend the monkey, chattering away, blissfully unaware that her parents were even in the room. This is the first time I've ever witnessed her this way, just amusing herself. In the scheme of things I realize this is just one small breakthrough, but tonight it feels like a pretty big deal...
